What really helps with dry eyes

About 10 million Germans suffer from dry eyes, of whom women are most frequently affected. With every blink it burns, itches, and hurts.

By taking the pill or during the menopause, the eyes become particularly sensitive.

Another reason for dry eyes are medications, illnesses, air-conditioned rooms, or also irritants. The consequence is redness and a foreign-body sensation in the eye.

Tear substitutes (artificial tears) can alleviate the dryness. So that the tear flow adheres longer on the cornea, the thickening agent contained in the drops ensures this.

The conjunctiva and cornea can become chronically inflamed.

If untreated, clouding of the eye lens threatens.

In the initial stage, the following measures can alleviate the complaints or even heal them completely:

  • An important contribution to the health of your eyes is regular exercise in the fresh air. The increased blood circulation ensures better supply of the lacrimal glands and thus increased production of tear fluid.
  • Avoid cigarette smoke and air conditioners, especially in the car.
  • You should air out well several times a day. A room humidifier would be advisable.
  • Regular breaks should be taken during computer work. During the breaks do not read, but blink consciously more often.
  • In order to preventively rule out serious diseases, regular check-ups with the ophthalmologist must not be neglected.
